The Argentinian female fronted power house of a band returns with the second installment of their multi-part EP series, Duo. With a fairly high bar set by their previous work, Unum, this EP has a lot to live up to. The question is, will this melodic death metal output prevail? Or will it be overshadowed by their last project?

Duo EP

Chaos Reborn” is the opening track, and is quite a contrast to the last EP, takes it’s time to build up a beautiful and atmospheric tone before bursting into the bands more usual sound. Julia Sergents brutal growls are as abrasive as ever, while backup vocals by guitarist Juan Bach are much more prevalent in the mix than on previous works, resulting in some rather beautifully haunting harmonies on the third track, “The Eye Of The Storm”. Additional guitar work by Gabriel Olivares, chugging and relentless drum work by Nicole Trinchero, and some standout bass lines in the background provided by Julian Rueda all add up to an extremely tight band performance in which each member is obviously very in tune with their collective talent, while still managing to stay in sync with their own individual ideas.

The Verdict

It’s safe to say that Duo is without a doubt a noticeable improvement over their previous, already solid piece of work, Unum. This four part, eighteen minute ordeal provides some amazing vocals placed atop a concise instrumental performance that’s sure to keep fans and newcomers alike engaged all the way through, leaving much anticipation for what’s to come next. The bar has now been moved from high to monumental, and as a new fan of the band myself, their future work definitely has some very high expectations to follow through with.

Keep up this great momentum Acroma, don’t disappoint!
